The Third Box Of Colour Tablets introduces greater challenge in colour discrimination - that of grading. The box contains 63 tablets representing nine colours in seven graded shades of red, blue, yellow, green, purple, orange, brown, pink and grey with plastic holders.
The aim of the activity is to identify the 9 different colours and then grade the subsequent shades of each of the colours from darkest to lightest. The material is set out on a table and can be laid out in a circular pattern whereby the most definite colour tablets are located at the centre (a colour wheel is available to help with this) and the subsequent lighter shades radiate out from that point. Alternatively the material can be laid out in nine columns with each of the most definite colours placed first to form the top of each column and the respective shades placed underneath from darkest to lightest.
This set can be used with a carer supporting the user when needed to remind them of names or help them identify some of the more challenging shade differences; it can also be used individually or with another person to encourage social interaction.
Observing the user working with this material will help to identify any cognitive changes taking place.
