Learning to write includes two different kinds of movement. Initially the child will learn to reproduce the form and then learn to handle the instrument of writing.
The Sandpaper Letters material provides an activity to prepare the child for writing.This is a tactile activity, the child guides their hand to trace their fingers along the sandpaper surface that shapes each letter in the precise style and direction that each would be written.
This Sandpaper Double Letters set includes lower case Sassoon double letter cards, allowing the child to become familiar with letters that commonly are written together in the English language. Each board has a space around it for the child to steady it with one hand while tracing the letter with the other.
As an extension activity, when the child is ready, the letter cards can be combined to help the child to begin to form simple familiar words.
