Activity for this Item GE6218X (Sold Separately) The Life Cycle of a Butterfly Objects is a series of 4 figurines describing the life cycles of a Monarch butterfly. Tiny striped caterpillars emerge from nearly invisible eggs. They immediately begin feeding on the surrounding milkweed leaves, storing food for the transition to come. After two weeks of frantic feeding, they form a chrysalis (also known as the pupa stage). After a further two weeks of metamorphosis, the chrysalis bursts and a beautiful monarch butterfly emerges. Although they are not yet on the endangered list, Monarch butterflies have decreased by 99% since 1980. Another reason why they are endangered, is that they only eat the leaves of the Milkweed plants, and these plants are also under threat from climate change. So even though you may not like caterpillars, or do not want them to eat your plants, we need to learn to live with them. Use these miniature objects to describe the life cycle of a butterfly. Stir the Child’s imagination and encourage them to rather be fascinated than repelled by caterpillars. Features of the Miniature Objects: 4 realistically painted figurines vibrant colours illustrates the 4 phases of the life cycle of a Monarch butterfly made from non-toxic and BPA free plastic ranging in size from 3 to 9 cm | |||||
